James Ryan Haywood Popularly called, Iron Ryan or The Mad King is an American Contestant, Comedian, Video game entertained former Off Topic Podcast co-host, and visual Effects SupervisorAnimation Department Machinima AnimatorHost and Former Achievement Hunter main cast member born December 6, 1980. Ryan grew up primarily in the Columbus, Georgia area. He was referred to by his parents as Ryan rather than James, and it stuck.
Originally while growing up in Georgia during his time in high school, Ryan initially worked as a professional male model while in high school in Georgia as stated in Let’s Play – 7 Days to Die Part 3, appearing in a magazine called “Twist”. These photos were released during the Extra Life stream once $200,000 had been raised. After $200,000 was raised in an Extra Life stream, the pictures from his Twist days were released. Along with the magazine, Ryan also starred in a runway show in Italy where he was dressed as a gnome who stood on a mushroom. Ryan also worked as a pool cleaner during his early high school days.
Ryan graduated from Full Sail University with a degree in computer animation and attended Georgia Southern University for six years, where he took courses in computer engineering, computer science, broadcast, and theater. He also studied abroad in England.

In March 2011, upon moving to Corpus Christi, Texas, Ryan discovered an online job opportunity on a Craigslist ad posted online for a job opening with Rooster Teeth. After applying, Geoff had Ryan up drive up to Austin on more than one occasion to ensure he really wanted the job. He was initially hired part-time by Geoff and Jack on June 14, 2011, to run, manage, oversee and edit shows, videos and content/series for the recently-created (now defunct) Game Fails YouTube channel remotely, as he lived in Corpus Christi at the time, about 3 hours away as well as a behind-the-scenes tech/PC guy. In early September 2011, Ryan and his wife Laurie subsequently moved to Austin, Texas, where he finally got officially hired at Rooster Teeth as a machinima animator, animation and VFX editor, and technical director for Red vs. Blue, Season 10, which was heavily in production at the time. At this point, he had been hired full-time at Rooster Teeth to work as an animator for the company’s long-running web series Red vs. Blue. Despite its military science fiction setting, Red vs. Blue had been light on combat, emphasizing humor and storytelling. With his involvement, the series began to feature elaborately choreographed fight sequences similar and updated animation styles similar to the content of submitted online fan videos. This trend continued through the completion of the 10th season of the show in Autumn 2012
Apart from his work as a member of Achievement Hunter, he has also co-starred and appeared in several live-action productions such as Rooster Teeth Shorts, Immersion, Million Dollars, But…, The Gauntlet, Ten and Eleven Little Roosters, and more. Ryan also provides voice acting for various Rooster Teeth animated shows. He voiced Professor Peter Port, a recurring secondary character in RWBY, Soldier #1, Marlowe, and Caboose’s Lieutenant John Elizabeth Andersmith in seasons 12, 13, and 15 of Red vs. Blue. He also voiced Marlowe in the Season 14 episode Grey vs. Gray and briefly voiced Diesel in the RTX@Home version of Viper, the first episode of Red vs. Blue: Zero, Jethro in Nomad of Nowhere, and The Mad King in X-Ray and Vav. Ryan also guest voiced Agent Millers in the season 2 finale of Camp Camp. He also made regular appearances on the gaming podcast The Patch and, its reboot of sorts, “Glitch Please”. While working at AH/RT, he began streaming on Twitch on April 30, 2016, under the channel SortaMaliciousGaming.

Ryan was born and raised in Columbus, Georgia. His first name is actually James, although his parents referred to him by his middle name, as it was a homage to his great-grandfather.
Ryan married his high school sweetheart in 2007. He and his wife Laurie had two children, a son named Eli born in 2011 and a daughter named Olivia born in late September/early October 2013, both of whom made appearances during his Twitch streams.

Departure from Rooster Teeth
Ryan left Rooster Teeth on October 6, 2020, following numerous sexual misconduct and grooming allegations. On October 7, Rooster Teeth issued a statement saying they had “parted ways” with him and Adam Kovic from Funhaus, as they were the two employees who breached the company’s Code of Conduct
Many Achievement Hunter and Rooster Teeth employees expressed their shock, outrage, and horror at Haywood’s behavior, and their desire to fully dissociate him from Rooster Teeth content and the community going forth. Shortly after the statement on the Code of Conduct, it was announced Red vs. Blue: Zero would delay its release date from October 19, to completely re-record Haywood’s dialogue in the series. Achievement Hunter co-hosts Michael Jones and Jack Pattillo announced on stream that Rooster Teeth would “wipe the slate clean”; they acknowledged it wouldn’t be feasible to eradicate every trace of Ryan from the past 8 years, but the video content library would be edited and/or deleted as necessary. In early 2021, he attempted a return to Twitch but has been banned from the service.
